Website is alive!

woo hoo, I had such a great idea that I registered this domain and started developing this site in 2019. But there is no new content in 5 years now?! So I decided to give it some more love.

why .is ?

Dude my given name starts like that… and it’s kinda domain hack. And one of my fav places on Earth ♥Eisland♥

• Create a privacy policy (huh?) because I plan to keep the comments section for now
• html: some fixes to the markup
• css: make the page a bit wider
• hugo: fixed path navigation issues
• hugo: fixed thumbnails (only generate one), lowered to 500px to avoid upscaling lowres tee images

30-May-2025:

• reconfigure logrotate on the VPS to delete all logfiles after 7 days
• configure Telegram for comments
• disable anonymous comments (due to fear of spambots)
• embed checkip to comment form (displays visitor’s IP address)
• fix latest posts html markup on front page (heading cannot be inside paragraph)
• correct typo

29-May-2025:

• experiment with self hosted comment system Remark42
• make the mail contact a bit smaller
• add countdown to towelday as well
• fix index page latest tee link to posts
• upgrade to hugo extended, convert all resized images to webp
• fix some links

26-May-2025:

• upgrade to Terminal CSS template
• customize hugo-theme-console for my taste
• backup & reinstall VPS to latest LTS. It’s only job is to redirect apex domain to www.
  • this time I am trying caddy instead of nginx
  • SMTPd no longer installed on the vps, also removed honeypot

23-May-2025:

• decided to work on the site some more

• styling and compressing index.html

• replace evil document.write() with document.currentScript.insertAdjacentHTML(‘beforebegin’, ‘') in stolen sysadminday script
• configured outbound only smtp
• failed to add admin script

• signed up for Http:BL
• got ModSecurity working with nginx
• removed X-Robots-Tag from headers
• notified Google, Bing and Archive.org about my existence :)
• created a friendly robots.txt
• added my fav icon

8-June-2019:

• “hardening” the VPS 7-June-2019:
• Ubuntu install
• Purchased VPS hosted at 1984.is
• Set up DNS hosted at NS1
• Registered domain at ISNIC

4-June-2018:

• Started playing with this idea
